What is Artemis?

The "Artemis " is aimed at the protection of archaeological, anthropological, artistic, natural (flora & fauna of our area), etc. ... a mass set of science are complementary and indispensable to the knowledge of their environment and territory, sensitizing the population to respect at what surrounds us, holding out a breath of research and culture shaped purely by the force of youth. The project

Artemis provides the discovery, documentation, protection and notification of new sites and varied in relation to culture, environment, land ... The protection will also have to face at sites already fully known, through labor in excavation, restoration, reconnaissance ...

This can be divided into districts that currently provide for the common Castellaneta (as focal point), Laterza and Ginocchio in connection with that matter and agro Tarantino;
comes with a Blog (as present here), or in the future will bring an actual site or any web space, will lecture notes, research reports, fanzine information, conferences, meetings, exhibitions etc. ...

may also face meetings, lectures and guided tours for school groups , treating them not only for a speech to a broader cultural view, but also an instinctive respect and honor leaked to the environment and the land, their history and our present.

All this, just like a look of Artemis, the goddess who carries out the results of the life force, the one who accompanies and governs the genesis and fate of every natural entity.

N . B.: at the moment we expect the presence of persons who are outside the archaeological (excluding the town of Laterza), such as students, ie, future historians, botanists, anthropologists, architects, historians ...

"The myth
(gr. IDOS-Artemis), the Greek goddess, daughter of Zeus and Leto, sister of Apollo, which is in a sense complementary, expressed in the dual relationship Brotherhood and opposition. As Apollo is "solar", A. is lunar, each acting in the light, in the city, in the order of Zeus, while the other acts in the dark in the forest, outside civic order (or Zeus). This explains the character of a woman who is not married, the queen of the night sometimes to assimilate to the queen of the underworld, the wild hunter who lives in the woods dialectically opposed to the city, the patron of witches and cults night of that world, that is, that seems removed from the empire of Zeus. Apollo also connect to the old rites of passage, in which A. represents the time of adolescence, while Apollo shows young adulthood already begun. Figure A. Greece comes from an older conception of "animal lady", and be precosmico primordial patron saint of hunters and hunter herself. The world of "Lord of animals," populated by nymphs and other sylvan beings, is that before the civil life in the city. It is the world that led to the city. So A. helps to be born men (he was the protector of the parties) and helps them to be reborn in the condition of adults. The Romans assimilated A. with their goddess Diana.

Iconography
In the age of most ancient is often depicted with wings, about to shake their legs real or imaginary animals. Following the prevalent iconography of the goddess hunter with a long tunic, flowing hair, bow and quiver. Often, the goddess is pictured with her brother Apollo. In large sculptural friezes of Sifnos Treasury at Delphi, the Parthenon and the Pergamon Altar, A. fights against the Giants on the other side. In the Hellenistic period is represented with a short chiton in the act of hunting, accompanied by various animals (Artemis of Versailles, Paris, Louvre). This type continues in the depiction of the Roman period. A particular aspect is the illustrations by the author. dell'Artemísion of Ephesus, the Hellenistic period (Naples, National Archaeological Museum): The goddess has a tower on his head, adorned with the nimbus of griffins, a large series in which you have several rows of breasts (now better understood as bull testicles ), a chiton that narrows toward the bottom decorated with reliefs depicting flowers, fruits, animals, real and fantastic. • Goddess of "Socratic" (helps to give birth, as Socrates helped give birth to knowledge)

  • goddess of growth and fate (cultural, tourism, learning ....)

  • Mrs. Dea animal (be precosmico and primordial)

  • goddess of hunting (the night stalker: the hunt in the mystery, new discoveries, reports)

Artemis: research, study and development in Castellaneta

Castellaneta The territory has rich environment, archaeological, artistic and historical area of \u200b\u200bconsiderable importance. Only through careful and systematic study of these sectors will generate knowledge needed. This knowledge, as well as a complete picture of the complex Castellaneta, will result in a common sense aimed at its protection and preservation. From this the value will be an automatic consequence.
Although there is no lack solid studies Castellaneta, just think of Henry Mastrobuono (Italian historian and magistrate), with its archaeological and historical writings, they often appear to be fragmented and isolated even though they represent a significant and important contribution. In fact, an archaeological study of a site can not be separated from its environmental review because it is precisely this second aspect to influence the first (eg, conformation, presence of resources, roads ..), this report also applies in an artistic phenomenon that can not be alienated from historical, religious and cultural factors that have influenced the achievement or enabled.
A study based on comprehensive analysis and cross is at the heart of the nascent group "Artemis". It is composed of seven boys animated by a profound feeling of study. The peculiarity lies in the components, in fact possess specific knowledge and skills in specific fields, so that each of the other activity is necessary in order to achieve a complete analysis:

-Sector archaeological : Livio and Nardò Stasolla Vincenzo years 21 and 22. Students of the University of Bari, Taranto seat, Faculty of Cultural Heritage for Tourism and Environment, in archaeological.
- environmental : Gentilesca John years of 33 years. He graduated from the University of Bari in Forest Science.
Nocco Marco 20 years. Student at the University of Basilicata, Matera site, Engineering Faculty of Environment and Territory.
- historical Sector: Raffaella Semeraro 29 years. Graduated from the University of Bologna in History and Philosophy.
- arts sector : Veronica of Vivo 21 years. Student at the University of Bari in Cultural Heritage Historical Art.
- literary Sector: Anna Luisi age of 21 years. Student at the University of Bari in literary culture of antiquity.
- journalistic Sector: Rossana D'Onofrio age of 21 years. Student at the University of Bari in publishing and journalism.

There are several goals that we want for our beautiful country starting with:
Territorial Development of studies available to third parties and involvement of public institutions (schools ...).
Protection and promotion of cultural heritage, environmental, archaeological, artistic, historical and literary.
Enlargement and consolidation of "cultural boundaries" castellanetani contacts and comparisons with other territories.

Reassessment of Castellaneta and his name
Now we will introduce some of the many elements characteristic of the area and unfamiliar Castellaneta:
The oldest artifact is a human artifact lytic scientifically called "amygdala", which dates from the Middle Paleolithic, the period from 120,000 to 35,000 years ago (E. Mastobuono ). E 'was found at quarry Ciulla ravine in S. Stefano. It is a stone tool used by hunter-gatherers who lived in caves and shelters. The study sites of this period is of particular importance, considering that the site Neanderthalian of ' Oscurusciuto "at the ravine Ginosa attracts high-caliber researchers as and Paolo Bosco Anna Ronchitelli of ' University of Siena. In that period is a fauna very different from that
today as we witness the discoveries of fossil remains in the site belonging to animals such as elephants, hyenas, deer, bos primigenius, etc.. The ravine in
this and other cases is of importance is unlimited because the particular shape in the past has allowed a sustained attendance um because ana is host to other important animal and plant species. This gives the opportunity to come into contact with an environment where fortunately survived untouched and unique archaeological sites and unspoilt flora and fauna elements now found only in these places because extinct in other parts dell'incontrollata due to human activities. In fact, the geographical position of our region, extending into the Mediterranean to the east has meant that in the Miocene, 5-6 million years ago when he created a bridge between islands and Puglia Balcani, diverse specie di animali e piante passarono nella nostra Regione. Questo fa si che procedendo dal margine superiore a fondo della gravina si susseguono plant communities that require different levels of humidity and that place on the back of a mesophile vegetation that is home to numerous species in the wettest months of otherwise rare amphibians such as the Italian tree frog, the toad and reptiles like the grass snake.
The presence of water and resources, along with the possibility of being able to defend well has led man to settle on the slopes or on the upper edge of the ravine in a temporal continuity that is so from prehistory to the present day. In fact, in the ravines castellanetane there are artifacts and structures of archaeological importance.: Remains of dolmens, and Magna Greek Apulian villages, farms, Roman, Byzantine crypts, medieval churches, houses seventeenth century, etc.

Eneolithic and Bronze age: 11

historical age: 23

To these we must add the sites that still continue to emerge through agricultural work. Also on the hill
Holy Trinity, in the Montecamplo, there are the remains of a fortified village Apulian-peuceta, which arose in the sixth and fifth centuries BC and, together with those of Colonial Minerva and Castelluccia, archaeological sites are castellanetani of considerable importance. In fact, many scholars consider the first site of the village of Monte Sannace 5 km from Gioia del Colle.
The proximity to cultural centers such as in prehistoric times Laterza and Matera and Taranto in the Bronze Age and later in historical times, along with the presence of major roads, cattle tracks ranging from the prehistoric to the Way Appia Antica, has allowed the people that lived in our region to achieve a particular degree of development and refinement of which we know only a small part. Therefore this is well demonstrated by the archaeological artifacts stored in the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MARTA), consisting of polished stone axes, pottery with a high artistic level, vases and objects in bronze and amber, decorated in relief, etc.
